“Afro-Asian Visions links past with present and the future
imaginary,” says Queer Rebels co-founder Celeste Chan. Queer Rebels co-founder KB Boyce adds: “We curate queer of color art that embraces the margins.” Afro-Asian Visions
traverses the Civil Rights era to Transatlantic memories; Japanese anarchists
to K-pop dreamscapes; and genderqueer fantasia to sexperimental video. “From
jazz to punk to poetry, people of color have roots in experimentation,” says Boyce. “We have always
been creating out of necessity.” Chansays, “Paying homage to innovative people of color, these films question – what
histories do we inherit, and what do we need to create?”
Queer
Rebels was founded in 2008 by artists K.B. Boyce and Celeste Chan
to connect generations, honor our histories with art for the future, and
highlight radical, experimental, and intergenerational art by queer and trans
people of color: www.queerrebels.com
